TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Related to the above muscle treatments are specific approaches when ‘knots’ or taut bands are located in muscles as a result of overuse, trauma, habitual posture. Sometimes these trigger points are generated by joint or spinal nerve dysfunction so they are secondary or ‘referred’ from the spine.
Sometimes they arise primarily in the muscle due to faulty posture or movement patterns. They are treated by correction of joint dysfunction by manipulation and massage, spray and stretch, dry needling (intramuscular stimulation), trigger point injection, or as a last resort botulinus toxin injection.
