The Consultation Process

  1. 1

Book a 30-minute consultation or a 45-minute full body screening appointment

  2. 2

Dr Raffner reviews your skin history and any moles you're concerned about

  3. 3

Dermoscopy examination of relevant moles under magnification

  4. 4

Discussion of findings and a clear recommendation — monitoring, removal or referral

Will Removal Take Place at My First Appointment?

A mole check is an assessment appointment, not a removal procedure. In most cases any mole that needs removing is booked as a separate procedure so the right time and consent can be arranged. If a lesion looks urgent, Dr Raffner will advise you on the fastest appropriate next step.

Treatment Options

  • Monitoring and photographic mole mapping over time
  • Shave or surgical excision if a mole is suspicious (see our Mole Removal service)
  • Punch biopsy for laboratory analysis where needed
  • Referral to an NHS or private specialist if a lesion requires further investigation

Histology Arrangements

If a mole is removed or biopsied, the sample is sent for histopathology so any cellular changes can be confirmed under the microscope. Histopathology is charged separately, starting from £180 for a small benign specimen.

Recovery & Aftercare

  • A mole check itself requires no recovery time
  • If a biopsy is taken, you'll be given simple wound care instructions
  • Keep the area clean and dry until it has healed
  • Avoid sun exposure on the area while it heals
